About Spices and Seasonings Catering Services

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Spices and Seasonings Catering Services, is owned and managed by Mrs. Irene Columna. It had a humble beginning at La Azotea Food Court, as Spices And Seasonings, the only business that introduced the sizzling Mongolian BBQ in the market. It did well for 3 years, during their stay in La Azotea. There was one time that one of their closest friends encouraged them to cater the event of Mrs. Brawner, one of the well known personalities in city of Pines. That was their first catering experience. Mr. and Mrs. Columna found that catering is a good source of income, although it is a labor intensive job but it is worth the effort, both the couple had the passion for food. Specially that Mr Renato Columna, the husband of Mrs Irene Columna and also the owner of Mang’s Cuisine has a wide experience in the food business. His first experience as a cook was when he worked at Peacock Restaurant, a Chinese  Restaurant of Sheraton Hotel in Manila way back in 1985 until 1989, where Mr. Columna learned the chinese cuisine, he became expert  on chinese cuisine especially when he was sent to Hong Kong to further learn and master the wide variety of Chinese food and the Chinese style of cooking. When the company was dissolved, a newly established Chinese restaurant in Baguio, the former Aiy-an Restautant in Session Road hired him. That was the time he set foot in Baguio. Unfortunately, an earthquake occurred, and the restaurant was closed. After months of recovering from the rubbles of earthquake, he was hired by Ganza restaurant located at Burnham Park owned by the Catings. He established the New Ganza Restaurant. He conceptualized the restaurant’s Filipino Chinese menu. He worked there for almost 4 years. He resigned to pursue his dream of establishing his own restaurant. To generate a capital, Rene and his wife decided that he would work abroad as sea farer. He flew to Germany to become part of the crew of the MS Berlin, a cruise ship, based in Germany, boarding  600 to 1000 passengers. He worked as a Souse Chef during those times. Here his culinary expertise became wider, he learned more about the international cuisine He work as a seaman from 1994 until 1996.

They used the ample amount of money  that they were able to save, to start the sizzling Mongolian BBQ in La Azotea Building in Session Road around 1997. After 3 years they incorporated the catering services into the trade name. In  December of 2000, they were  accredited by AIM Baguio Conference Center as their official caterer, catering to all its seminars and conferences for 10 years. The couple also handled the pantry of Moog Controls Corporation an American Company manufacturing spare parts of airplanes Boeing 747, under the  name of Mang’s Cuisine. Providing Food for around 1200 employees for 24 hours, from July 2007 to September 2008.

After the contract in Moog had finished they won the bidding as food provider in 2009  of Aegis People Support , a call center located at SM bldg., along Upper Harrison  Rd., It was a one-year contract only. Fortunately Spices was given an extension of another year until 2011, providing the call center agents of foods 24 hours in 7 days. Now Spices and Seasonings Catering Services is one of the canteen concessionaires of the University of the Philippines Baguio. They added a new line of business which is the breadline, they baked sumptuous,  but inexpensive breads, pastries and cakes for all occasions like weddings and birthdays Now It continuously caters delicious, balance, nutritious and affordable foods that suits to the budget of their clients and customers.
